Eric P. Shakin, MD
Dr. Shakin completed his residency in ophthalmology, and a vitreo-retinal fellowship at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. After his training, he was a member of the Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital , and served there as co-director of the visual physiology department until 1995. He was also clinical assistant professor at the Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. Dr. Shakin joined LI/Queens Vitreo-Retinal Consultants in 1995.
Dr. Shakin is a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Society of New York, Queens Medical Society, New York State Ophthalmology Society, and the Long Island Ophthalmologic Society.
He has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Shakin is also a member of the American diabetes Association, American Society of Retinal Specialists, Retina Society, and a member of the Nassau Academy of Medicine. He has been selected as one of the “Best Doctors” in America, nominated as a New York Super Doctor, and nominated by Castle Connelly as a “Top Doctor.” Dr. Shakin is an assistant professor at Hofstra School of Medicine. Dr. Shakin has been a principal investigator for the Mirivant and Vitrase studies as well as ongoing studies. He dedicates his professional expertise to local clinics for the disadvantaged as well as resident training programs at the local hospitals.
