Albert S. Li, M.D
Dr. Albert S. Li is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained medical and surgical retina specialist. He currently is a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Dr. Li graduated magna cum laude with highest honors in Chemical and Physical Biology from Harvard College.
He was awarded the Thomas Temple Hoopes Prize for one of the best undergraduate research thesis at Harvard and inducted into The Phi Beta Kappa Society. He earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, serving as chief resident in his final year. He then completed his vitreoretinal fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he also held an academic appointment as an Instructor in Ophthalmology. Dr. Li previously taught at University of Maryland School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, where he was honored as Faculty of the Year for excellence in resident teaching.
Dr. Li is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was also designated a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists (FASRS). Dr. Li serves as the Chinese language editor for the Retina Health Series from the Foundation of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS). He has received an Honor Award from the ASRS and also has been selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Li continues to be engaged in clinical research in retinal diseases as well as the education and training of medical students and residents in ophthalmology at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. At VRC he is a co-investigator in several multicenter clinical trials investigating novel therapies for retinal diseases. He has authored many peer-reviewed articles in the medical literature and has given numerous scientific presentations, posters and abstracts at national and international ophthalmology meetings.
Dr. Li also speaks Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. His areas of expertise include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, myopia, retinal vascular disease, retinal detachment, macular pucker, macular hole, and management of cataract complications.
